7 – What is limestone?
Our limestoneplateaus are essentially the result of the presence of the Thetys ocean between 200 million and 100 million years ago. During this period, all creatures living in the sea deposited their skeletons or shells on the seabed. That’s why limestone rocks are rich in fossils. When Thetys withdrew, she left us these thick limestone plateaus.
Limestone is mostly calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
